Professor Chris Lamb

Chris is Clinical lead for Open-IBD. He is a Senior Lecturer within the Translational & Clinical Research Institute at Newcastle University and an Honorary Consultant in Gastroenterology at the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals specialising in management of inflammatory bowel disease.

Chris is a group lead with a research laboratory team studying molecular mucosal immunology, the gut microbiome, drug discovery and precision medicine in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Professor Chris Stewart

Chris is a Wellcome Trust Sir Henry Dale Fellow & Lister Institute Prize Fellow within the Translational & Clinical Research Institute at Newcastle University.

Chris leads a research group focused on multi-omic computational and experimental approaches to study microbial-host interaction in the gut, to determine mechanisms of health and gastrointestinal diseases.

Dr Ally Speight

Ally is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Associate Clinical Lecturer within the Translational & Clinical Research Institute at Newcastle University.

Ally's clinical and research interests include therapeutics in inflammatory bowel disease.

Katherine Jacques

Katherine is the Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Manager for the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre’s Informatics and Precision Care Theme.

She is responsible for making sure that patients and the public are meaningfully involved in IBD-RESPONSE to ensure the research is meeting the patient need. Katherine has worked in PPIE since 2016.

Mary Doona  
Mary is a Gastroenterology research nurse with over 10 years of experience. Mary will be involved in recruiting patients into Open-IBD at Newcastle.
Dr Chaonan Dong
Chao is a NIHR research fellow In gastroenterology. Chao will undertake a PhD in patient and public perceptions of big data research in inflammatory bowel disease
Dr Robert Mulligan
Rob is a clinical research fellow and will undertake a PhD as part of the Open-IBD programme. He is a Specialty Registrar in Gastroenterology with an interest in inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr Nicola Wyatt
Nicola is an Academic Clinical Fellow in gastroenterology, with an interest in inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr Robert Lees
Bob is a clinical research fellow undertaking an MD at Newcastle.

Dr Naomi McGregor
Senior Trial Manager

Naomi is the Senior Trial Manager for IBD-RESPONSE and provides oversight and support to the study management group ensuring that the study is conducted in line with sponsor, regulatory and research governance requirements

Dr Dean Allerton
Trial Manager

Dean is a Trial Co-Manager, co-managing the IBD-RESPONSE study. Dean works closely with site staff to respond to queries concerning any aspects of the study.  

Dr Victoria Hildreth
Trial Manager

Victoria is Trial Co-Manager for IBD-RESPONSE study, making sure the study is compliant with the study protocol and international standards of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).   

Dr Sonya Collins
Data Manager

Sonya is a data manager for IBD-RESPONSE. She has a background biological research and extensive administrative experience in both the private and public sectors.

Kath is a Clinical Trial Administrator for IBD-RESPONSE.

Sarah Lawrence
Clinical Trial Administrator

Sarah has a background in Administration and Events Management and now the Clinical Trials Administrator for IBD-RESPONSE.

Open-IBD laboratory and data analysis team

Dr Greg Young
Greg is a microbiome scientist and excited to be part of the data analysis team of Open-IBD. His research uses multi-omic approaches to interrogate host-associated environments with a specific interest in how bacterial and viral interactions within microbial systems can influence human health.

Dr Lauren Beck
Lauren is a gut microbiome researcher and part of the Open-IBD data analysis team.
Her research includes analysing and integrating multi-omic datasets to better understand the relationship between the gut microbiome and host health and disease.

Dr Hannah Watson
Hannah completed her PhD in drug-toxicity in 2021, and has since began the role as a Lab Manager,  setting up the lab for receipt and processing of patient samples, and supporting different research projects.
Jennifer Doyle
Jen completed her Master of Research Degree at Newcastle University, in Cancer Studies, and has been working as a Laboratory Technical Specialist working on a variety of exciting projects, including Open-IBD.
