Carl is the Interim Head of the Human Genetics Programme and a Senior Group Leader at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, where he leads the Genomics of Inflammation and Immunity Group.
His research primarily focuses on using genetic and genomic data to understand complex disease susceptibility, progression and drug response, with a particular focus on inflammatory bowel disease. Carl is co-Chief Investigator and Scientific Lead for Open-IBD
Cristina is a Senior Staff Scientist in the Genomics of Inflammation and Immunity group at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. Cristina leads the experimental team in Carl Anderson’s group.
Cristina’s work applies single cell omics techniques on human samples to generate large-scale genetic and genomic data to elucidate biological mechanisms affecting immune mediated diseases, with a special interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Laura is a Senior Staff Scientist at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.
Laura leads a large international collaborative effort, driven by the International IBD Consortium to identify new genetic variants, and genes, associated with IBD susceptibility in order to further increase our understanding of the biology of the disease, and to reveal new potential therapeutic targets.
Georgina is a Research Project Manager at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and has recently joined the Human Genetics programme as project manager for the Open-IBD project.
Georgia has extensive experience in sample management and managing several areas of large-scale projects taking them from their infancy to completion.
Michelle is a Technical Specialist in the Genomics of Inflammation and Immunity group led by Dr. Carl Anderson, part of the Human Genetics program at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.
Michelle completed her PhD at the University of Nottingham, and joined Carl’s team in July 2021 to work on the IBD-Response and IBDverse projects, processing tissue and blood for 10X sequencing. Michelle was instrumental in implementing the IBD-Response project at the Sanger Institute, and supporting the on boarding of project manager and supporting teams alongside routine sample processing
